Kalimba (Mbira) Small

The kalimba, often called a thumb piano, is a modern adaptation of the traditional Zimbabwean mbira. It consists of staggered metal tines mounted onto a wooden board or soundbox. When you pluck these tines with your thumbs, they vibrate to produce a soft, bell-like, and ethereal tone. Classified as a lamellophone (a type of idiophone), the instrument relies entirely on its own body to resonate and create music, making it incredibly compact and portable.
